Samsung has stepped into the tri-fold category with the launch of the Galaxy Z TriFold, arriving shortly after Huawei’s model in the same segment. The release also comes at a time when industry chatter suggests that Apple may unveil its first foldable device next year. With the Z TriFold, Samsung aims to show how far foldable engineering has come, especially in terms of durability and design refinement.

A New Hinge System Built for a Three-Way Fold

Samsung has redesigned its hinge structure specifically for this device. According to the company, the Galaxy Z TriFold uses two hinges of different sizes that rely on a dual-rail system, allowing the panels to fold more smoothly and maintain better stability. This mechanism plays a major role in making a tri-fold design practical for everyday use.

Display: Large Inside, Comfortable Outside

When fully opened, the Galaxy Z TriFold offers a 10-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and up to 1,600 nits peak brightness. This large canvas turns the phone into a near-tablet experience, suitable for multitasking, media, and productivity.

On the outside, the cover screen measures 6.5 inches with Full HD+ resolution and 2,600 nits peak brightness, making it bright enough for outdoor use. Samsung has used Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on the front and a Ceramic-Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer layer on the back for added toughness.

Hardware and Performance

The Galaxy Z TriFold is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, the same flagship processor used across Samsung’s top-tier devices this year. It includes 16 GB RAM and offers 512 GB or 1 TB storage options. With this setup, the phone is designed to handle heavy apps, multitasking, and extended use without slowing down.

Camera System

Samsung has equipped the device with a 200 MP main camera with optical image stabilization, paired with a 12 MP ultra-wide lens, and a 10 MP telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom.
For selfies and video calls, the phone includes two 10 MP cameras—one on the cover and another on the inside.

Battery, Software, and Durability

The phone carries a 5,600 mAh battery, supporting 45 W wired charging and 15 W wireless charging. With a compatible charger, Samsung says it can reach 50% in around 30 minutes.

On the software side, it runs One UI 8 based on Android 16 and includes Samsung’s promise of seven years of OS upgrades and security patches.

The device comes in a Crafted Black finish and includes IP48 protection, offering resistance against dust and splashes.

Price and Availability

Samsung has priced the Galaxy Z TriFold at 3,594,000 KRW, which roughly converts to ₹2,19,000 for the 512 GB variant. Sales begin in South Korea on 12 December, followed by launches in China, Taiwan, Singapore, and the UAE.

Final Thoughts

The Galaxy Z TriFold shows Samsung’s ambition in the foldable space by bringing a triple-fold design to mainstream attention. With a large display, solid build materials, flagship hardware, and long-term software support, the device sets a bold direction for future foldables. Its high price keeps it in the premium niche, but for users seeking cutting-edge smartphone design, the Z TriFold stands out as one of the most innovative options available today.
